Basic Info
Name:Simeon "Sim" Kavanagh
Birthdate:01-26
Location:New Mexico, United States
Bio
"I never told you why I hated MacLean as much as you did. It didn't have anything to do with the time you found me in the desert. No reason you shouldn't know now.

Frank MacLean was my father, and Cole was my brother.

My mother was a whore in Texas. Frank MacLean visited her when he got tired of his wife, which was often enough. She thought he'd set her up in a house and give her a fancy life. Then I was born, and he stopped coming. Ma blamed me for that. She started sickening a few years later. I didn't know who my pa was until Ma told me on her deathbed. I was sixteen. I went to find my daddy. MacLean didn't want anything to do with me. When I stood up to him, he sent Cole to get rid of me. I lived. And I meant so little to him that when we met in Las Vegas, he didn't even recognise me.
"

- from "Once a Wolf"; chapter 22.

After the age of sixteen*, Sim took up the life of an outlaw. He stole cattle from cattlemen, as well as horses. Over time he became known as a dangerous criminal who had several alleged murders to his name - he was wanted in several states, and he knew that any man who brought him in would be declared a hero.

But Sim Kavanagh is not like other outlaws who trouble the law with their presence. Because Sim's father is Frank MacLean, Sim is, like his father and his friend Don Thomas Randall, a werewolf - el hombre lobo - and capable of becoming a wolf at will, as well as having all the abilities of a wolf in human form.

It's no wonder Sim managed to evade capture for so long, as his abilities gave him the decided edge.

But there are other werewolves he must deal with, and not all of them are on his side...

*It's hard to tell exactly when Sim Kavanagh became an outlaw, but it's safe to say it was sometime during his teenage years, and by the time he met Don Thomas Randall his reputation as a cattle rustler, thief and murderer was well-known to all in the southwest.

Suffice to say Sim looks and acts every bit the bandito he is, and has absolutely no scruples whatsoever in doing whatever it takes to get whatever he wants.

NOTES:

Appearance: Sim has the typical Hispanic appearance but for his eyes, which are unusually pale and feral-looking. He also dresses in the manner one would see someone like Sim would wear in the fashion of the mid to late 19th century style.

Abilities: As a werewolf, Sim can assume the shape of a wolf at will, the colouring of the fur matching his hair exactly, as well as having the same pale eyes he has in human form. Unfortunately, in order to Change to wolf form Sim has to discard his clothing. And as he has a lot of clothing on, and he does not want to leave his guns lying about for someone to steal, he rarely if ever assumes wolf-shape.

However, his senses do not change in strength from human to animal. Like a wolf he has night vision, a keen sense of smell and hearing and has inhuman endurance at long distance running and travel. But being a bandit, he finds horses much better at getting around than just running on one's own two legs.

He also has something his race refers to as the "will", which is the ability to coerce another and make them do as one wishes (What this means is that the individual the ability to use one's emotions to help punctuate whatever one is saying to another. If one wants to appear frightening, he can use his will to elicit a fright reaction in the other person.)

[Disclaimer: Sim Kavanagh is the property of *guh* romance novellist Susan Krinard. Though I'm no fan of romance novels in general, the fact that Susan has created an interesting version of the werewolf race makes the romance angle easier to take.

Though I do wish from time to time that she'd just write historical fantasy and drop the whole romance schlop behind.]
